Fuerteventura, the closest to the African Continent of the Canary Islands, holds a small treasure that captivates all those who find it out: The Island de Lobos, a jewel of nature separated from the “majorera” coast by two kilometres of ocean. We invite you to get on board of a boat, enjoy the ride crossing this piece of sea and discover one of the best kept treasures of Fuerteventura.

The Island of the sea lions
Lobos Island is a small islet (the surface does not reach the five square kilometres) of volcanic origin with invaluable natural beauty and wealth. It is so named because in the past it was inhabited by monk seals, currently endangered species also known as sea lions. The entire island is protected making up the Natural Park of Lobos Island, as its land, with its beautiful beaches and coastline, are home to more than a hundred species of plants, rare birds and a wide range of marine species.

How to get there
From the port of Corralejo, northeast of Fuerteventura, several regular boat lines cover every day the short ride to the Island de Lobos. The ride takes less than half an hour, and the water is so clear and the bottom so shallow that you can be watching what happens under the sea. Some companies organize customized trips, catamaran rides… The range of possibilities to come and enjoy a great day in this beautiful setting is wide.

What to do
We propose a number of things to do once you get to the coast of Lobos, although you can just get carried away, because every corner is worth a beautiful postcard.

Trekking
Lobos Island is the first stage out of the nine that make up the long trail route that crosses Fuerteventura from end to end (GR 131). The trail has a length of less than four kilometres and it is slightly sloping so it is a pleasant walk, and a must for trekkers and fans of its scenic and natural values.

Beach
The entire coast of the island is beautiful, but if you are looking for a paradisiacal beach with fine white sand and turquoise waters and stunning views of the Natural Park of Dunes of Corralejo, the beach of La Concha, a few metres from El Muellito, where the boats dock, is definitely your place.

El Puertito
Imagine a postcard with a walkway that juts into incredibly clear water, volcanic rocks forming puddles and ponds, dream stone cottages… this idyllic image is El Puertito, in Lobos Island.

Surfing
In some seasons, at the base of the caldera of the island, a high quality right wave, very prized by surfers, is formed.

Snorkeling
wear diving goggles and dive into the colourful underwater world that the coast of the island hides, you will discover authentic natural treasures.

And we won’t tell you anything else… you must find it out yourself.
